The municipality of Porto Azzurro is located on the central-eastern coast of the island of Elba. An ancient building, Forte San Giacomo, dating back to the early 17th century, serves as a lookout. The town, originally called Porto Longone, was for a long time under the rule of the Spanish, who occupied it due to its favorable position. From here, it was possible to control trade and defend the territories under their control. In the early 19th century, the fortress became a civil penitentiary. Over the decades, the beauty and prosperity of this corner of paradise has attracted a notable tourist presence. The name was then changed to Porto Azzurro to give it a more touristic and scenic feel.

Finally, during the month of February, every corner of the town will be dressed up for the holidays with the organization of Carnival events. New Year's Eve parties, festivals, float parades, and much more are scheduled every year. The event also includes a competition for the most beautiful float to participate in the famous Viareggio Carnival. The historic center is teeming with shops and visitors eager to browse the area's rich artisanal and artistic heritage. A little healthy shopping can be an opportunity to purchase typical products. Oil, honey, wine, ceramics, and food preparations are just waiting to be sampled. Nightlife is quite lively, as clubs and restaurants never close.
