Lacona is a hamlet in the municipality of Capoliveri. The toponym Lacona derives from the Latin lacuna («lagoon»), referring to the vast gulf with shallow waters that characterizes the town.
The Lacona beach, composed of golden sand, is more than a kilometer long and in some sections is several dozen meters wide. Due to its large size, it is suitable for any type of tourist: families with children, couples looking for a quiet beach, or young people looking for fun. The Lacona beach on the Island of Elba is composed of very fine sand; the area is Well protected from the winds thanks to the promontories of Capo di Stella and Capo Fonza, and the various equipped establishments make it suitable for all ages: children can play with traditional buckets and spades, while older children can play sports, play volleyball, bocce, or listen to music on the beach. Lacona beach features restaurants, bars, and various shops, making the village a lively little town during the summer.

Lacona beach, and more generally all the beaches on the island of Elba, are ideal for water sports. With almost 1,200 meters of sandy shore, it is the second largest beach on the island. The beach has multiple bathing establishments and facilities for practicing water sports: bars, restaurants, diving centers, boat rentals, water games, canoes, sun loungers, and umbrellas. The area has numerous tourist facilities: campsites, hotels, residences, apartments, as well as numerous shops.
It is also the kingdom of those who love trekking to discover the Gusto Sentiero, local products, and ancient rural areas in the UNESCO MAB Reserve that extends across the southern part of the island. On the coast is the last dune area of the Tuscan Archipelago, where Birdwatching takes place, a walk starting from the Gulf of Lacona and proceeding towards the Serra del Pero. Along the route, you pass through the Valle Santa Maria and reach the border with Portoferraio, before returning along the path to the starting point. How to get to the beach
Lacona beach, one of the largest and widest sandy beaches on the island of Elba, is located in the municipality of Capoliveri in the famous seaside village of Lacona. It is easy to reach by taking the turnoff on the provincial road between Portoferraio and Capoliveri/Porto Azzurro towards Marina di Campo. To reach this beautiful tourist destination, you can use the service provided by the municipality of Capoliveri, the Marebus. With this means of transport, between June and September, you can reach various beaches on the island of Elba, including Lacona. Buses run approximately every 15 minutes, and the journey time, starting from the municipality of Capoliveri, is about half an hour. Alternatively, you can use your own car and leave it in one of the large parking lots available in the area. To reach Lacona beach, you need to take provincial road 31, then 26, and finally 30 if your starting point is the municipality of Capoliveri.
