Samson Beach
Samson Beach is rightly considered one of the most beautiful on the island of Elba: it offers an enchanting, crystal-clear sea and a stretch of smooth, white pebbles, and has enormous, white cliffs behind it that make it truly unique. Due to the colors, white and turquoise as far as the eye can see and the clarity of the waters, this beach has nothing to envy of the most famous Caribbean resorts. Sansone beach is located on the north coast of the island, in the stretch between Portoferraio and Capo Enfola and is part of the group of so-called white beaches, a group that also includes the well-known beaches of Le Ghiaie, Sottobomba, Capo Bianco, Padulella and La Sorgente. It is separated from the latter only by a large perforated rock much used by tourists to dive into the sea below. It is a place of enchanting beauty!
The origin of the name
It seems that the name of the beach derives precisely from the presence of this large rock, which fell following a landslide. In short, Samson would be nothing more than a corruption of Saxon. In addition to the large rock that separates it from the Spring, the beach, about 300 meters long, is bordered at the other end by a huge white sea stack, perfect for canoeing or kayaking. The transparent sea and pure white bottom, as well as the presence of caves, rocks and crevices, make the place a small paradise for marine fauna that you can easily observe both by snorkeling and diving.
Services on the beach
For those who don't want to give up some basic comforts, we point out that there is a small establishment on the beach that provides umbrellas and sun loungers and also bar service. In the campsite adjacent to the Sorgente beach you will find all the necessary amenities, including a food service.
How to get to Samson Beach
Sansone Beach is located near Portoferraio, making it easily accessible, but you'll have to walk the last stretch of road. From Portoferraio, take the provincial road towards Capo Enfola: after about 4 km, on the right, you will find a pedestrian path with signs for the beach. Park your car along the road or enter the paid parking lot and continue on foot for about 350 meters, passing even a small village. You will first arrive at the beach of the Source, and from there, following a small path that starts from the entrance of the campsite of the same name and heads towards the promontory, you will reach the beach of Samson. The walking route isn't very challenging, except for the last section, which is a bit steep, but the advice is still to travel light without carrying too much weight. In summer you can also take advantage of the Marebus departing from Portoferraio, which touches the main tourist attractions in the area and includes stops near the most popular beaches, including the beach
