The characteristics of Reale beach
A short distance from Porto Azzurro, the evocative beach of Reale presents itself as a popular destination for bathers who frequent the island of Elba due to the charm of the landscape and the clean sea, a vivid blue. The convenient services available make the days on the beach extremely relaxing, and, to top it all off, an excursion to the adjacent Terranera lake will help make the experience unforgettable. Located on the southeast side of the island of Elba, in the municipality of Porto Azzurro and more precisely at the bottom of the Reale Valley, Reale beach extends in front of the sea for a total length of approximately 110 meters and a maximum width of 22. Its surface is normally subject to good life-giving ventilation; particularly to the northwest (Tramontana wind), a factor that contributes not only to cooling, but also to keeping the sea clean. Its bottom is mixed: sand and reddish-grey gravel, ideal therefore for all those who do not like pebbles and rocks. The seabed, on the other hand, is rocky, and becomes deep after just a few metres. It is populated by a varied flora and fauna, which is worth admiring. A particular feature of Reale beach is its location between two different mining basins, once productive thanks to the rich deposits of pyrite, magnetite, and hematite and now abandoned. But this is a joy for the tourist, who cannot miss visiting today's version of one of the two: the Terranera lake. From the lido, you can easily reach it in 10 minutes by walking along a picturesque path surrounded by nature.
A true gem with deep emerald green waters, the pond was formed by filling an ancient excavation well with marine waters, mixed with sulfurous ones. It is precisely the mineral residues that make its color so dense and vivid, that once contemplated it is never forgotten. But beware of the temptation to take a dip: swimming in the pond is prohibited.
Reale Beach: Infrastructure and Activities
Another attraction of Reale beach is the quality and variety of services available: parking, bar, restaurant, deckchair and umbrella rentals, boat and pedal boat rentals, sailing school, surf school, camping, even a small market nearby: in short, there's really nothing missing. Without taking away the naturalistic charm of the beach, it is therefore possible to bring children and the elderly here without fear. As for activities, in addition to sailing, surfing, and of course swimming, snorkeling is strongly recommended. The spectacle of the seabed is unmissable, and the presence of some shallows makes the "task" easy and profitable.
How to get to the beach
Getting to Reale beach by car is quite simple and quick, as the beach is very close to Porto Azzurro (the distance is just over 3 km). Leaving the city center, take provincial road 26 towards Rio Marina; after about 2 km, you'll come across the detour to Capo D'Arco-Reale on the right, which, once you've taken it, allows you to reach Reale beach by following the sign. (From the turn at Capo D'Arco-Reale the journey is approximately 1 km.) The free and fairly large dirt parking lot is right next to the beach.
