A paradise immersed in greenery
Almost a kilometer long, Procchio beach is part of the municipality of Marciana, is one of the best equipped on the entire island of Elba and is therefore particularly popular with both locals and tourists. In ancient times it was called Cervinia and for a long time it was a very important center of copper and iron processing. The exceptional archaeological finds that have made the area even more interesting date back a few years, merging the extraordinary natural beauty with a renewed historical interest. Among the finds, the hull of a Roman ship rich in amphorae and materials intended for trade and a furnace for melting metals stand out. The beautiful sandy beach of Procchio is located in the large gulf of the same name, on the northern side of the island and lies between the promontories of Guardiola and Punta Agnone. It is made up of several adjacent areas, namely the Lido di Procchio, Campo all'Aia and, proceeding west, you can also encounter the wonderful little beach of La Guardiola, characterised by lush vegetation that in some places almost reaches the sea. The Procchio beach is made up of fine, golden sand, bathed in particularly clear waters rich in emerald hues. The transparency of coastal waters is even more evident when the southerly winds of the Levant, Sirocco and Mezzogiorno blow, which have the power to make the sea surface totally flat. Procchio beach is very popular with families with children, who can count on a sandy beach and a gently sloping seabed that allows them to swim, play, and walk safely in the water.
Particularly evocative is the view you can enjoy, characterised by the very green heights immediately behind the coastline, with Mount Perone and the imposing Mount Capanne on the front line, which give life to one of the most beautiful views on the entire island. The beach is made even more pleasant and comfortable by the numerous services offered by the many beach resorts present here. You can rent deckchairs and umbrellas, canoes, pedal boats and boats and enjoy the presence of numerous bars and restaurants. There are also several sailing, diving and windsurfing schools on site. Finally, the village located a short distance from the beach offers many other services, including shops of all kinds, supermarkets and a pharmacy.
How to get to the beach
To reach the beautiful beach of Procchio by car, you need to pass from Campo to Aia (a place where there is also a large and convenient dirt parking lot). Those coming from the hamlet of Procchio, however, are forced to leave their car and go down to the sea on foot, considering the transit ban for all four-wheeled vehicles. The distance from the town is short and the short walk is absolutely pleasant. In Procchio there are many parking lots, which become paid in the summer between 8 and 20 am. Being located in a transit area and right in the center of the island, the hamlet is well connected to the main towns and therefore easily accessible. Many public buses and private shuttles offer daily trips to and from Procchio. During the summer season, the Marebus service provided by the Municipality of Marciana allows locals and tourists to reach the beach from nearby hamlets. Procchio is about fifteen kilometers from the municipality of Marciana, ten from the island capital Portoferraio and just over six from the nearest municipality, Marciana Marina.
